1894 – Four families met in a small school house on Center St. as the first Lutheran church in Salem. The church was formally organized on July 28th, 1894 as Christ Lutheran Church.
1899 - The church was relocated to State St. just east of 17th.
1943 - Church voted to use English in all services; previously both German and English had been used.
1954 – Fourteen acres are purchased in current location and construction begins.
1958 – New church building at 4440 State St dedicated.
1973 – New pipe organ is dedicated.
2003 - Merged with Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
2007 - Gathering Room is added.
2019 - Acreage in back on church is sold to make room for new neighbors and new friends.
Over 125 years of worship services, Sunday School, Bible studies, Mission Trips, Youth lock-ins, Vacation Bible School, potlucks, weddings, funerals, Christmas programs, Harvest Fair, Fall School Supply Giveaways, women’s groups, Quilters, Men’s fishing trips, building addition and renovations, sale of property, church councils, spaghetti dinners, pre-school and day care, choir rehearsals, and stewardship drives.
Our mission has stayed the same; yesterday, today and always to tell the good news of the gospel of Christ to live in community with one another, to welcome all and to serve them with love and grace.
This was the mission and prayer over 125 years ago and it is our mission and prayer into the future.
